guitar, all of them represent or play a note. I’m very happy that way, no regrets and I’m not bitter.
The fret gets closer to the guitar body as you advance counting.

I think it’s important that you need to find a good guitar teacher who can you teach you what you want.
I teach my students to play chords and songs first so they immediately experience the fun of guitar playing. At a later stage I also teach them scales, guitar theory, etc, so they can expand their knowledge and improve their skills. If you can’t find the right teacher you can also learn a lot by yourself and from the internet. If you do find the right teacher and you are passionate about guitar playing I’m convinced you’ll learn a lot faster. It’s also creates accountability to keep you motivated.

It may be good because you learn the proper playing technique, but it also has drawbacks it’s expensive, and takes lots of time. Lots. You’ll usually learn lots of music theory, and learn basic scales before the teacher ever teaches you how to play a single song.
