By the way it doesnt work if your listening to other music at the same time.. you really need like you say no distractions at all… i heard frank sinatra used to write his songs down over and over again to memorize them.. everyone has to find his own way…

My preferred method is practice, practice, practice, and play for people ever opportunity you get. Play with other guitarists as often as you can. It will help get over the fear and anxiety that may be preventing you to perform and you will remember songs.

I will know the lyrics because I enjoy the song. I am just starting guitar and have found if I make a sheet with just the words where the chords are I can sing the song in my head or aloud and will learn the chords and key words together. After a while I just know the chords as I sing the song. Much in the same way I know the lyrics.
