Some people get too caught up with the thinking that you need more. I used to be that person and it drove me insane. I used to care more about making a song sound more “produced” than about getting a heartfelt message across.

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.

You suggest a Macbook Pro but the picture appears to be of a Macbook Air. Any reason why an Air (i7, 1.8 ghz) wouldn’t work as well with your minimalist setup?

Thanks

Hi Matt,

You’re right, you don’t need to spend a lot of money to get quality recordings. But I also like things that work without crashes, latency, etc. and I know this stuff works really well.

Yes there is lots of good stuff out there and this is certainly not the only way to go. Just tellin’ you about my preferences.

In my opion Macbook Pro is minimalistic because in the long run it saves me time and money.

Aprreciate your comment Matt,
Thanks,

Maybe in space saving and ease of transportation but that is one EXPENSIVE laptop! I always thought that living minimally meant living on a budget. Maybe a better solution would be a dual core desktop PC for under $500, install Ubuntu Studio, and stick in an M-Audio (now Avid) Delta 1010LT sound card. You really don’t need a super fast PC for audio recording, we’ve been using PCs to record CDs for at least a decade now. Otherwise, good article.

Hi Martha,

I’m glad you think so.
I thought it was a good idea to place some posts in the footer.
That way it is easy to see the overall picture.
