I do this in most major keys with a 6th string root. I can do it from a 5th string root as well. I have never been able to see the magic in the ii V I sequence although I use it all the time because “that is what everyone raves about”. I expect an a-haa moment sooner or later. I am somewhat familiar with arpeggios, inversions, extensions, encIoseures e.t.c. I attempt to improvise using these tools with some success.

However I still I struggle to play anything that even resembles a jazz standard. Can you help me or should I just give up on jazz and stick with simpler tunes?

This is an another interesting post.
My favourite jazz songs are:
All of me
Summertime
Body and soul
I’m excited to practice the chord progressions.
