Ever since I saw the Beatles perform on the Ed Sullivan show at the age of 13 I knew that I wanted to be in a band. I did start playing at that early age but life took me in another direction for 45 years, and I kind of lost my dream. I do still play the guitar and I can sing also but have never been able to really devote much time to really hone my skills. I must say since I found your site and after reading, how to become the guitar player you always wanted to be I have made my mine up to do just that. You really touched my heart by what you said and how you said it. Thank you so much Klaus for putting the sprite back into me.

Hi Crow,

That’s a great question. I started teaching guitar when I was about 16 years old and I loved doing that. It was something that just came naturally. (I was still in school and worked as a carpenter for a short while after that) Then I decided I wanted to become a full time professional guitar player in a band. I talked about it, imagined it, felt it every single day and it became a reality. I gigged around the country for 8 years and had a wonderful time. At one moment I wanted a change, no more gigging on holidays, late nights and I wanted more freedom. I wanted to start a family, teaching at home and creating a new lifestyle for myself.

Now I am 36 years old, happily married with two kids (a third one coming up), teaching guitar at home, blogging, still practicing and improving my guitar skills, playing with fellow musicians, drinking cappuccino, good wine and living a pretty good life. It’s the greatest thing that happened to me, because I create my own rules and my own lifestyle.

As far as my guitar playing skills, I’m in a pretty good place with many wishes fulfilled, still improving and loving every minute of it. Yes I can say, I’m living the life of the guitarist I really want to be. Who knows what the future will bring?

Best regards,
Klaus Crow

It can be hard sometimes when others don’t see the vision you have for yourself, but “Just start living it and acting towards it” is the best advice for getting them to come around. I’m in the process of Re-imagining my life as a guitar player and your advice is helping folks like us to stay focused on going after what we really want.
